Make a Real Difference Every Day

About the Role

At Belmont Secondary School, we don’t just teach—we change lives. We’re on the lookout for a Teaching Assistant (Pupil Support Worker) with heart, resilience, and a passion for helping students shine—no matter the challenges they face. This is more than just a support role. This is about being the steady hand, the encouraging smile, and the person a young learner trusts to guide them through the good days (and the tougher ones too).

As a Pupil Support Worker, you'll work side-by-side with teachers and pupils to build a calm, nurturing, and positive classroom environment where students can thrive—academically, socially, and emotionally.

You’ll:

1. Provide individual and small group support in lessons across a range of subjects
2. Help implement tailored educational programmes and behaviour plans
3. Support pupils’ social, emotional, and behavioural development, encouraging positive relationships and self-belief
4. Prepare learning materials and resources to bring lessons to life
5. Accompany pupils and staff on educational visits and enrichment activities
6. Occasionally support with transporting pupils (e.g. after detentions or school trips)
7. Keep clear records of student progress and wellbeing, contributing to a holistic picture of each learner

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who:

8. Has Grade C/4 or above in English and Maths (or equivalent)
9. Has a calm, patient and caring approach—especially in challenging moments
10. Loves working with young people and is passionate about making learning accessible for everyone
11. Can build strong, supportive relationships with pupils and staff alike
12. Has experience working with secondary-age pupils (ideal but not essential)
13. Can work as part of a team but is also confident taking initiative
14. Believes in the potential of every student—and won’t give up on them
