Job Overview
Band 2 Health Care Assistants support registered nursing teams in providing basic patient care on a respiratory ward. Duties include patient hygiene, feeding, mobility support, fluid balance, safe waste disposal, and assistance with lab specimen collection.
Responsibilities
* Assist patients with personal care and hygiene, including catheter bag emptying.
* Support toileting and continence management while maintaining privacy and dignity.
* Measure fluid intake/output and report to the registered nurse.
* Prepare and serve meals, snacks, and drinks; coordinate with catering.
* Assist with movement and safe handling of patients.
* Promote mobility through exercise and mobility aids.
* Prevent and manage pressure sores under nursing supervision.
* Collect specimens for lab or ward testing.
* Escort patients to clinical departments.
* Perform basic life support techniques and assist during resuscitation.
* Maintain clean and safe environment; dispose of clinical waste per policy.
* Report incidents and support staff in managing abusive behaviour.
Qualifications
* NVQ Level 2 or equivalent experience in a caring role.
Experience & Skills
* Suitable work/life experience in a healthcare setting.
* Basic computer literacy.
* Effective interpersonal relationships with colleagues.
* Clear written and spoken communication.
