About The Role
We have an exciting and rewarding opportunity for a compassionate and knowledgeable experienced Group Facilitator to join our Hertfordshire team to support our Dementia Support Group. Our Group Facilitators all have a shared passion to support people to maintain their independence, improve their sense of well-being, and help them take more control of their lives!
Location – Hertfordshire (with regular travel across the county) some homeworking required so reliable home Wi-Fi is required.
Hours – 28 per week
Interviews – 16th and 18th December
Alzheimer’s Society are working in partnership with Age UK and Carers in Hertfordshire to deliver the new Dementia Support contract called Memory Support Hertfordshire, managing 22 centre-based activities groups (weekly) across the local area, running carers and Young Onset specific groups both online and face-to face. Our groups are well established and a crucial means of support to service users and carers. This is an exciting time to join as we are in the process of reviewing our groups and we hope that this will result in us developing more groups (respite, specific communities or location specific) in the coming months. Our Group Facilitator’s have many key functions; this will include planning and coordinating weekly activity-based groups (could range from 2-4 groups per week). You will plan engaging and supportive activities in a structured rolling 12-week program with defined outcomes for each session and this will be done in consultation with service users and carers. You will also coordinate volunteers that support your groups, work with local Dementia Advisers to provide 1-2-1 support for groups attendees and establish relationships with local organisations for the purposes of facilitating signposted support for service users. You will be joining a team of expert Group Facilitators and Dementia Advisers that are experienced and passionate about their work and they will support you to undertake your role successfully.
About you:
1. Passionate about supporting people to maintain their independence, improve their sense of well-being, and help them take more control of their lives.
2. Experience of managing, planning and supporting engaging groups sessions with people.
3. Strong communication skills to deliver advice and guidance with a non-judgmental and compassionate approach and collaborating with other professionals.
4. Good IT skills, including experience working with databases and virtual meeting software (Teams / Zoom).
5. Be able to travel independently across Hertfordshire and transport any resources required for your group sessions.
What you’ll focus on:
6. Managing and facilitating weekly activities-based groups (could range from 3-4 groups per week) across Hertfordshire
7. Planning a range of meaningful activities for your groups structed within a rolling 12-week program.
8. Resourcing and setting up your groups which could mean moving and setting up tables and chairs and clearing up at the end of the session
9. Manage volunteers that support your groups.
10. Offering support to group attendees and working with local Dementia Advisers to provide 1-2-1 support for groups attendees.
Interviews will take place week commencing 15th December and if successful in getting through to the interview stage we will email you actual date interview on the week of 8th December. As part of the interview, you will be required to provide a 5 minute presentation details will be shared at interview stage
