Description Job Description Are you looking for a fast-paced post in a dynamic environment that offers the opportunity to build strong relationships across the Directorate and wider Scottish Government? You will join the Directorate for Chief Economist in DG Economy. Working directly for the Chief Economist (Director) and the Business Management Unit, reporting to the Directorate business manager. The Unit is a small and friendly team based in St Andrews House. The Directorate provides analytical support right across the Scottish Government to the Directorates in DG Economy, DG Scottish Exchequer as well as DG Strategy and External Affairs and DG Communities. We provide high-quality analytical advice and support for Ministers and colleagues on all aspects of the Scottish economy and the public finances across a wide range of policy areas including climate change, trade, investment, labour market and enterprise and skills. Responsibilities Responsibilities Manage and prioritise the Chief Economist’s diary by understanding his priorities in order to deal effectively with diary requests and changes, booking meeting rooms and organising any associated logistics and travel to ensure that his time is used effectively. Manage the Chief Economist’s inbox and prepare meeting papers by identifying the most urgent items for action and clearance, based on priorities agreed with the Chief Economist. Act as the first point of contact for all internal and external enquiries including ensuring all key communications are archived to provide a robust audit trail for important decisions. Passing on requests to the two Deputy Directors (DDs) and Unit Heads when necessary, to ensure commissions and asks are responded to on time on behalf of the Chief Economist. Co-ordinate input from the relevant teams for briefings for meetings the Chief Economist is attending. Act as Directorate preparer, raising and receipting orders on Oracle; updating the TOC spend monitoring sheet. Support the directorate BCLO as and when required. Hold the role as directorate Health and Safety Liaison Officer. With the support of the BMU lead on preparing for new staff including induction materials; updating of organograms, staffing and distribution lists. Information Management Support Officer (IMSO) responsibilities. Experience: Experience in a business management role at divisional or directorate level, preferably using the Oracle system. Ability to prioritise workloads to meet deadlines, and be adaptable to change.
