A specialist electro-mechanical manufacturer in the defence and critical systems space is looking for a hands-on Production Engineer to support the full product lifecycle across a growing portfolio of engineered systems. This role suits someone who enjoys responsibility, variety and working in a tight-knit SME environment where you can make a visible impact.
As the Production Engineer, you'll bridge engineering design and production, ensuring products are manufacturable, cost-effective and delivered to the required quality standards. You'll support New Product Introduction (NPI), optimise manufacturing processes, drive improvements, and provide day-to-day technical support to production teams. The role includes visibility across both legacy and new products, with exposure to mechanical, electrical and system-level assemblies.
Key Responsibilities
* Act as the interface between engineering design and production to ensure efficient manufacture
* Support NPI processes and the transition from prototype to volume build
* Develop and maintain work instructions, process documentation and quality checks
* Drive process improvements across quality, throughput and cost
* Troubleshoot production issues and provide technical support to shop floor teams
* Specify and/or design jigs, fixtures, tooling and test equipment
* Support product testing and safe operational practices
* Provide oversight to quality support functions
Requirements
* Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a similar discipline
* 5+ years experience in a production engineering role within mechanical/electrical manufacturing
* Experience working across both engineering and hands-on production environments
* Knowledge of assembly, integration and build processes for electro-mechanical systems
* Strong documentation and quality system capability
Desirable
* Product or system testing experience
* Exposure to regulated or defence-related products
* Background in Design Engineering and/or CAD proficiency
What’s Offered
* Permanent position with competitive salary circa £50k (DOE)
* Varied and hands-on responsibilities typical of a growing SME
* Opportunity to influence manufacturing processes and product lifecycle decisions
* Exposure to complex, high-reliability electro-mechanical systems in a niche sector
* Close collaboration with engineering, operations, quality and design functions
