Carpenter (Skilled Fabric Technician) Location: Twycross ZooContract Type: PPM & Reactive MaintenanceHours: Full-time, 40 hours per weekReports To: Facilities Manager About the Role We are seeking a skilled, reliable, and proactive Carpenter (Skilled Fabric Technician) to join our FM team at Twycross Zoo. This role involves delivering high-quality building fabric maintenance across both planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive works. You will carry out a wide variety of carpentry tasks, support small project works, and ensure all maintenance activities are completed safely, efficiently, and to a consistently high standard. The role requires someone who can work independently or as part of a team, with strong craftsmanship and attention to detail. Key Responsibilities Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) Carry out scheduled carpentry and building fabric maintenance. Complete routine compliance checks including:Fire door inspections Fence condition checks Plant room visual checks Water pump visual inspections Weekly fire alarm testing Roof cleaning using SkyVac (training provided) Reactive Maintenance Respond promptly to reactive repair requests, diagnosing issues and completing repairs efficiently. Undertake a range of carpentry repairs including:Door and frame repairs Lock changes Fencing repairs Minor joinery works General building fabric maintenance Small Project Works Support and deliver small-scale refurbishment and improvement projects such as:Fencing installations Minor refurbishments Timber structure repairs Property upgrades and general improvement works Essential Qualifications & Experience NVQ Level 2 in Carpentry (minimum) At least 3 years’ experience in carpentry or building maintenance Full, clean UK driving licence High level of craftsmanship and attention to detail Ability to work independently and as part of a team Experience using PDA/mobile job management systems Desirable Training & Certifications MEWP 3a / 3b Licence PASMA Certification L8 Legionella Awareness Fire door survey/inspection training Experience with lock changes and security ironmongery SkyVac roof/gutter cleaning experience Basic knowledge of mechanical/electrical plant room checks Experience supporting minor project work Skills & Personal Attributes Strong problem-solving abilities Excellent communication and customer service skills Well-organised with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively Safety-first mindset with solid awareness of site H&S requirements Reliable, trustworthy, and committed to high-quality workmanship Confident using mobile PDA systems for workflow and task management Given the nature of this position, you will need to undergo a Basic Disclosure and Barring Service Check (DBS) at offer stage.
