14 weeks contract role with a Local Authority
Job Summary:
• The Committee Officer – Legal provides comprehensive committee services to Swindon Borough Council, including the Council, Cabinet, Overview & Scrutiny Committee, Regulatory Committees, and other council-related bodies such as Education Appeal Panels.
• The role involves organising meetings, preparing agendas and minutes, managing the agenda process, providing procedural advice, supporting Chairs, and ensuring efficient operation of committees and related governance processes.
• Some duties will require attendance in the office, particularly for public committee meetings, while other work can be done remotely.
Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):
• Organise, schedule, and attend meetings (in-person or online).
• Prepare agendas, minutes, action sheets, and decision notifications.
• Research and prepare reports to support committee work.
• Implement and manage Agenda Management Plans for committees and related bodies.
• Project manage the committee agenda process and ensure timely circulation of materials.
• Undertake administrative and quasi-judicial procedures, e.g., Appeals, Exclusion Reviews, Licensing Panels.
• Provide procedural and governance advice to committees and Chairs.
• Prepare briefings and notes for committee Chairs.
• Undertake performance monitoring and maintain accurate records.
• Ensure meetings are broadcast live to the public (except exempt items).
Skills/Experience:
• Experience providing committee or administrative support in a governance, legal, or public sector environment.
• Strong organisational and project management skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report and minute preparation.
• Knowledge of committee procedures, local government decision-making, or quasi-judicial processes.
• Ability to provide procedural advice and support to Chairs and committees.
• Competence in using Microsoft Office and virtual meeting platforms.
• Attention to detail and strong record-keeping skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
• Flexible approach to work, including evening meetings as required.
Additional Information:
• Bi-Weekly Payments.
• Temporary role: 14 weeks, 37 hours per week.
• Location: Civic Campus, Euclid Street, Swindon, SN1 2JG, UK.
• Rate: Limited/Umbrella: £30.00 per hour.
