WSP is a leading professional services firm providing strategic advisory, engineering and design services. This role supports the Earth and Environment businesses, with a focus on managing legal and commercial risk related to engineering consultancy contracts, including major procurements and complex contracting arrangements.
What you will do
* Work closely with the Earth and Environment business teams to support growth while embedding contractual and commercial risk management, mitigation and regulatory compliance.
* Review and negotiate contractual documentation relevant to the earth, mining and environment sectors, including consultancy agreements, project contracts, joint venture and teaming agreements, framework agreements, collateral warranties, deeds of novation, reliance letters, non-disclosure agreements, letters of intent, and sub-consultancy agreements.
* Carry out legal reviews to minimise impact on WSP’s working capital and proactively conclude contract negotiations in a timely manner.
* Ensure corporate governance is maintained in relation to contract reviews and bid approvals.
* Provide advice and guidance on tender processes and bid documentation to identify risk and promote competition.
* Support the business in the contract delivery phase to maximise revenue, minimise risk and support effective contract management.
* Collaborate with internal disciplines, bid teams, commercial and operations directors and other support functions including finance.
* Keep the business updated on relevant legal developments in the environmental and earth-related space and deliver legal training as needed.
* Contribute to the organisation and dissemination of legal know-how within the WSP UK Legal team and provide lessons learned to the wider business.
* Be a team player who works collaboratively with colleagues at all times.
What we will be looking for you to demonstrate
* Solicitor qualified in England & Wales with post-qualification experience in reviewing and advising on contractual matters within the engineering and construction sector.
* Experience in-house at an engineering consultancy or contractor is preferable; experience with complex contracting including joint ventures is desirable.
* Ability to work autonomously while contributing to the wider legal team.
* Educated to degree level or equivalent.
* Qualified solicitor or barrister in England and Wales.
* Excellent communication skills, written and oral.
* Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and prioritise competing demands.
* Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills.
