Headquartered in East Kilbride and with an R+D centre in Hamilton, Grw Talent's client is building out a high-volume electronic probe test card production and assembly business in East Kilbride. Already employing over 100 heads they continue to grow in Scotland, USA and Asia. They now need to make the key hire of a Buyer to join their procurement team, reporting into the Supply Chain Manager.
The successful candidate will be responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing goods, materials, and services to meet the company's operational requirements. This includes negotiating prices, managing terms of supply, overseeing supplier relationships, and ensuring timely delivery while maintaining quality and cost-effectiveness.
Responsibilities:
Source and purchase raw materials, components, consumables, and services in line with production requirements.
Build & maintain effective supplier relationships to secure quality, delivery, & cost benefits.
Negotiate contracts, pricing, lead times, & terms of supply to optimise value for company.
Manage supplier performance, resolving delivery or quality issues promptly to avoid production delays.
Monitor material usage and inventory levels, raising purchase orders and expediting deliveries where required.
Work closely with production, planning, quality, and engineering teams to forecast demand and ensure availability of critical materials.
Identify and deliver cost-saving opportunities through supplier negotiations, alternative sourcing, or process improvements.
Maintain accurate purchasing records, including pricing, lead times, supplier data, and contract terms.
Ensure compliance with company purchasing procedures, quality standards, and relevant regulatory requirements.
Support supplier audits and evaluations in line with quality and operational standards. To succeed in this role you'll need strong negotiation and supplier management skills along with knowledge of manufacturing supply chains, materials planning, and procurement processes. Also desirable would be an understanding of engineering drawings/specifications. You must have previous experience in a buying or procurement role within a manufacturing/engineering environment and also an understanding of quality systems (ISO9001 or equivalent) and supplier compliance. This would suit someone analytical and detail-focused with problem-solving ability and excellent communication and relationship-building skills across suppliers and internal teams. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ERP/MRP systems and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced production environment is also expected.
