Project Development Specialist – Renewable Energy (Hydrogen / Infrastructure)

Alexander Associates has been exclusively mandated by a pioneering UK-based green energy company to identify and recruit a Project Development Specialist. This is a unique opportunity to join a dynamic and mission-driven team leading the development of cutting-edge decarbonisation projects across the UK, with a core focus on green hydrogen infrastructure.
You will play a critical role in land development, planning, environmental and safety permitting, and stakeholder management for large-scale renewable energy projects.
Key Responsibilities
* Oversee land development activities including site identification, acquisition (lease/purchase), surveys, and stakeholder negotiations.
* Lead the planning application process and ensure all regulatory planning consents are obtained.
* Manage environmental and safety permitting (e.g., Hazardous Substance Consent, COMAH).
* Interface with regulatory bodies, consultants, and local stakeholders to support project delivery.
* Identify risks to project delivery and develop mitigation strategies alongside Project Managers.
* Coordinate with internal teams (Technical, Asset Management) to align development with engineering and operational requirements.
* Maintain up-to-date documentation including permits, contracts, and status reports.
About You
* Minimum 3 years of experience in project development for infrastructure, renewable energy, or related sectors (e.g. solar, wind, grid, water).
* Strong experience in land acquisition, planning permissions, and environmental/safety permitting in the UK.
* Background in Planning, Environmental Sciences, Land Development, or Surveying is ideal.
* Demonstrable experience supporting projects through pre-feasibility to investment committee approval.
* Comfortable managing multiple stakeholders and project elements across a complex regulatory landscape.
* Skilled in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Project) and GIS Mapping tools.
Preferred Qualifications
* BSc/MSc in Planning, Environmental Science, Surveying, or Engineering.
* Chartered status (RTPI or RICS) is advantageous but not essential.
* Prior exposure to hydrogen, low-carbon, or Net Zero infrastructure projects is highly desirable.
