Substance Misuse Nurse – Gateshead Service Care Solutions are currently recruiting for an experienced Substance Misuse Nurse to join one of our clients in Gateshead on a temporary contract.
Pay & Contract
Rate: £35 Ltd per hour
Hours: 37.5 per week, Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Contract Type: Temporary (approximately 1 month), with potential for extension
Start Date: ImmediateRole Overview You will deliver high?quality clinical care to individuals accessing substance misuse services. This includes completing assessments, supporting safe detoxification pathways, managing OST plans, and promoting wider health and wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities Clinical Assessment & Treatment
Complete physical and mental health assessments and refer to primary/secondary healthcare services where appropriate.
Undertake alcohol assessments in line with alcohol policy to determine safe detoxification needs.
Assist with opioid titration to support safe and appropriate OST dosing, working alongside prescribers, team members, and community pharmacists.BBV & Health Promotion
Provide education, health promotion, and screening for BBVs, with the ability to deliver Hepatitis A/B vaccinations.
Work within integrated care pathways for individuals affected by Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, and HIV.Detoxification Work
Undertake community?based detoxification for alcohol and opioids, delivered either at the service or within a service user’s home.
Perform phlebotomy, interpret blood results, and use findings to guide treatment decisions.
Refer for inpatient detox when required and liaise closely with relevant hospital teams.Requirements
NMC?registered Registered Nurse
Experience working within substance misuse services
Competent in community detoxification and phlebotomy
