Job Summary:
The post-holder will join a multidisciplinary team providing high-quality stroke care, including hyperacute stroke services, acute inpatient management, rehabilitation, outpatient clinics, and TIA services. They will support the development and delivery of integrated stroke pathways in line with national best practice and NHS England standards.
The role includes direct clinical care, teaching, supervision of trainees, participation in clinical governance and service development, and contribution to research and audit activities.
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
* Provide specialist assessment, diagnosis, and management of patients with suspected and confirmed stroke.
* Participate in the hyperacute stroke rota, including thrombolysis and thrombectomy referral decisions.
* Deliver inpatient and outpatient stroke care, including TIA clinics and follow-up services.
* Work collaboratively with colleagues in neurology, geriatrics, emergency medicine, radiology, and rehabilitation services.
* Lead and contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings and stroke unit ward rounds.
* Supervise and support junior doctors, specialist nurses, and allied health professionals.
* Contribute to clinical governance, audit, quality improvement, and service development within stroke medicine.
* Participate in teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
* Engage in and support clinical research and innovation within the Trust.
* Undertake administrative duties associated with patient care and service delivery.
* Participate in consultant on-call rota as required.
Qualifications & Requirements:Essential:
* Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC).
* Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register in Stroke Medicine or in an appropriate parent specialty (e.g., Geriatric Medicine, Neurology, Acute Internal Medicine, Rehabilitation Medicine) with a sub-specialty accreditation in Stroke Medicine.
* Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or within 6 months of award at the time of interview.
* Evidence of comprehensive training and experience in stroke medicine, including hyperacute care and rehabilitation.
* Demonstrated ability to lead a multidisciplinary team.
* Experience in audit, clinical governance, and quality improvement.
* Commitment to teaching and training of medical students and junior doctors.
* Excellent communication, organisational, and leadership skills.
Desirable:
* Higher degree (MD/PhD or equivalent) in a relevant clinical or research field.
* Evidence of peer-reviewed publications or research activity in stroke medicine.
* Substantive experience in service development or leadership.
* Familiarity with national guidelines (e.g., NICE, SSNAP, GIRFT).
* Evidence of active involvement in national or regional stroke networks.

Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 6 months
Pay: £90.95-£128.65 per hour
Expected hours: 45 – 50 per week
