Overview

This is a part-time post for 30 hours per week, with hours from 07:30 to 22:30, including weekends (weekend enhancements applicable).
The post holder will provide a vital supporting role to all areas of the Trust to assist in providing an efficient and effective 24 hour telephonist service on the hospital switchboard, which handles a high volume of calls (approximately 10,000 per day).
Responsibilities
* Answer internal and external telephone calls to the Trust switchboard in a polite, sensitive and respectful manner using greetin gs and protocols that follow Trust operational procedures.
* Operate the IT-based telephone switchboard consoles to control distribution of operator-connected calls.
* Programme bleeps correctly to ensure all group calls are entered as required for patient safety.
* Be flexible with working patterns to ensure adequate operator service at all times.
* Remain calm when dealing with Trust-wide emergency calls and stressful situations.
* Answer queries and direct members of the public and staff; assist confused and emotional visitors in a sympathetic and calm manner.
Qualifications
* Good general education
* Good command of the English language
Desirable criteria
* Previous NHS experience
* Previous switchboard/receptionist experience
* Proven ability to maintain confidentiality

* Appointment is conditional on satisfactory completion of core NHS Employment Checks and a 6-month probationary period. The Trust may close vacancies early due to high response levels.
