About the Role
Our client, an innovative biotechnology company, is seeking a
Research Associate or Senior Research Associate
to support their growing Target Discovery and Validation team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge science in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment at a pivotal stage of the company's development.
The role will involve working closely with project teams to maintain CRISPR knockout cell lines and perform cellular assays to identify novel therapeutic targets. You will manage cell stocks to support screening programs and gain exposure to advanced technologies including 3D spheroids, bioprinting, high-throughput imaging, and multiplex assays.
This position would suit either:
* a recent graduate (BSc/MSc) with industry experience in mammalian cell culture, OR
* an experienced laboratory technician with hands-on expertise in cell culture
Key Responsibilities
* Perform mammalian cell culture of both primary and transformed cells
* Manage cell stocks and bulk engineered cells to support high-throughput screening programs
* Provide cells to assay teams to maintain screening throughput
* Conduct quality control including mycoplasma testing, viability, proliferation, and senescence checks
* Contribute to laboratory operations (ordering, waste management, calibration records, glassware maintenance)
* Support Health & Safety compliance through risk assessments, SOPs, COSHH, and HTA documentation
* Record experimental work in electronic lab notebooks (ELN) and present data at internal/external meetings
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support antibody discovery programs in inflammation and immuno-oncology
Candidate Requirements
* BSc (or equivalent) or MSc in a relevant biological science discipline
* Demonstrable industry/biotech experience in drug discovery (essential)
* Hands-on experience with human cell culture (immortalized cell lines required)
* Preferred: Experience with disease models (e.g. 3D systems)
* Desirable skills in one or more of the following:
* 3D high-content imaging
* Multicolour flow cytometry
* Multiplex ligand assays (ELISA, MSD)
* Immunofluorescence staining
* Problem-solving skills in assay development and troubleshooting (preferred)
* Ability to work independently while contributing as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
* Strong communication skills, both written (reporting, ELN) and verbal (presentations)
* Passionate, collaborative, and motivated to contribute to advancing drug discovery
