Highly Specialist Clinical Physiologist Echocardiography

We are looking for a Highly Specialist Clinical Physiologist to join our Cardio‑Respiratory Service. The role involves delivering cardiac and respiratory diagnostics across Calderdale Royal Hospital, Huddersfield Royal Infirmary, and the Community Diagnostic Spoke and Hub.
Main duties of the job
* Work independently performing and reporting adult transthoracic echocardiograms on both inpatients and outpatients across the Trust.
* Provide training and support to clinical physiologists and specialty doctors.
* Provide clinical support and reporting supervision with feedback to all disciplines in training within the team including unaccredited clinical physiologists and specialty doctors.
* Partner with Cardiology Consultants and Registrars to perform Stress Echocardiography, Transoesophageal Echocardiography and Contrast Studies.
* Work with the appropriate Team Lead to maximise clinic capacity with regular monitoring and auditing of IP/OP requirements.
* With Oncology Research leads, provide clinical and technical support to oncology trial teams ensuring high‑quality cardiac monitoring for all trial participants.
* Participate in departmental audits as required by the Clinical Leads.
Job responsibilities
Clinical Duties
* Perform and report transthoracic echo to BSE standards.
* Assist in Dobutamine Stress Echo, Transoesophageal Echo, 3D and Contrast Studies as required.
* Work at all Trust sites as required.
* Provide Immediate Life Support within the department and throughout the Trust premises as required.
* Maintain equipment, perform daily safety checks and report/repair any issues in line with department protocols.
* Adhere to departmental protocols and procedures following Trust and national guidelines.
* Demonstrate manual handling skills for patients and equipment.
* Recognise and act upon significant abnormalities.
* Prioritise own workload and supervise junior staff.
* Report to and liaise with medical colleagues regarding patients requiring medical review.
* Train and develop student physiologists, specialty doctors and observers within the department.
* Produce factual reports on Adult Transthoracic Echocardiography, Advanced Echocardiography, and Routine ECG.
Person Specification
Qualifications / Training
* BSc in Clinical Physiology (or equivalent).
* State registration with RCCP/AHCS.
* BSE Accreditation.
* ILS/ALS Current.
* SLIP Course completion.
Knowledge, Experience & Expertise
* Proven experience of adult transthoracic echocardiography and non‑invasive cardiology.
* Independent practitioner in all areas of the job specification.
* Excellent ECG analysis skills.
* Ability to use audit tools.
* Evidence of CPD in specialist procedures; ANTT trained.
* Experience of advanced techniques and specific cardiac monitoring techniques in trial work.
* Ability to evaluate and act appropriately in emergency situations.
* Competent trainer for junior staff and students.
* Physiologist‑led stress testing experience.

* Good communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work as part of a team.
* Consistency, high quality and safety of practice.

Salary
£49,387 to £56,515 a year, pro rata.
