Job Summary
37.5 hour post available on the paediatric ward. The post is on a 12 bedded medical ward (F65) covering ages 0–2 years. Duties include supporting children and families during their hospital stay and working round the clock as part of a 24‑hour paediatric team.
Job Responsibilities
* Assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care without direct supervision.
* Act as the named nurse for a defined group of patients from admission to discharge.
* Take charge of the ward for duty periods when the ward manager is absent.
* Ensure cleanliness and hygiene standards are maintained throughout the ward.
* Provide support to families and deliver compassionate care.
* Supervise and delegate to qualified or unqualified staff in accordance with the NMC Code.
* Work flexibly, including part‑time, to meet the 365‑day service needs.
Person Specification – Experience
* Experience working in an acute hospital or community healthcare setting.
* Recent experience as a registered children's nurse (desirable).
Person Specification – Physical & Skills
* Ability to assist patients’ movement in line with Trust Moving & Handling Policy.
* Provide and receive complex or sensitive information without supervision.
* Competent with IT – Microsoft Office, CPD evidence, current national health and social care policy.
* Knowledge of evidence‑based guidelines (NICE, NPSA alerts, nursing legislation).
* Venepuncture and cannulation competency (desirable).
Qualifications
* Essential: NMC Registered Children’s Nurse or equivalent qualification if newly qualified.
* Desirable: Degree in Nursing, clinical teaching experience, mentorship preparation, teaching qualification.
Additional Information
* UK registration required; current UK professional registration necessary.
* Rehabilitation of Offenders Act – Disclosure and Barring Service check required.
* Pay: £31,049 to £37,796 per year (Band 5).
* Contract: Permanent Full‑time.
