Overview
Contract Type: Full-time (37.5hours). Role Purpose: The Student Wellbeing Officer will act as the first point of contact for students requiring support, providing expert advice, guidance, and referral to appropriate services. The role combines direct student support with academic-related wellbeing processes, ensuring that wellbeing considerations are embedded into all aspects of the student experience.
Responsibilities
* Provide timely, accurate advice on wellbeing, personal, and academic issues; signpost to internal and external services as required.
* Manage a high volume of enquiries, maintaining clear records and prioritising cases based on urgency and risk.
* Support academic administrative processes linked to wellbeing (e.g. Extenuating Circumstances, extensions, leave of absence).
* Coordinate the implementation of reasonable adjustments, working with academic and professional services to balance welfare and learning outcomes.
* Deliver proactive wellbeing initiatives and activities to promote health, inclusion, and respect within the college community.
* Provide crisis support to students and liaise with staff and external agencies (e.g. housing, financial, health services) to ensure coordinated care.
* Advocate for vulnerable groups, including young carers and those facing hardship.
* Ensure compliance with GDPR and contribute to the development of robust wellbeing policies aligned with partner universities.
* Collaborate across departments (Student Success, Academic Services, Teaching, Engagement, Integrity, Assessment, Learning & Teaching Offices) to streamline support.
* Actively promote equality, diversity, and inclusion in all wellbeing practices.
* Engage in ongoing professional development and participate in regular supervision to maintain competence.
* Strong knowledge of student support, safeguarding, and wellbeing in higher education.
* Proven ability to manage complex and sensitive caseloads with discretion and professionalism.
* Experience providing crisis support and liaising with external agencies.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport quickly.
* Strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise under pressure.
* Experience managing academic-related processes linked to wellbeing (e.g. extensions, extenuating circumstances).

* Experience supporting vulnerable or underrepresented groups (e.g. care leavers, disabled students).
