Community Ranger - Old Windsor Summary We have a fantastic opportunity for someone with a passion for nature and the outdoors, to help deliver the National Trust's new Strategy; ‘to end unequal access to history, nature and beauty’, and to inspire communities to take action. Salary: 26,793 per annum Contract: Permanent Hours/ working pattern: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week, working an average of 1 weekend per month. This role is required to work with vulnerable groups including children and any offer of employment or volunteering is subject to a satisfactory enhanced DBS check. What it's like to work here There’s an exciting breadth to this role. You’ll support the Site Manager with the daily operational requirements of the site, including being on the rota as a Duty Manager which will involve working an average of 1 weekend per month. You’ll spend about 2 days per week working on outdoor practical ranger tasks with the Ranger team. This will ensure that you have excellent working knowledge of the site and familiarity with ranger practices and priorities.Now part of the newly-formed Osterley and Runnymede property group, Runnymede is an iconic site on the banks of the river Thames, famed for its rich history centred around the signing of the magna carta, but also known as a haven for nature, including the Langham Ponds SSSI. The team are also responsible for the sites of Ankerwycke, just across the river, and for Finchampstead Ridges and Simons Wood. What you'll be doing The role is focused on nature and will work closely with a well-established Ranger Team as well as delivering community sessions independently.For the small team at Runnymede, you’ll take the lead on inspiring the community to take an interest in the nature and beauty that Runnymede has to offer, working closely with experienced ranger staff and volunteers, and other members of the team. The role will also have a significant focus on volunteers, enabling support to countryside management through the recruitment and management of ranger volunteers and habitat monitors. The primary emphasis of the role will be engaging with the community, both local and more broadly, about the nature and beauty represented at Runnymede. Who we're looking for Applications from redeployees are assessed against the minimum criteria for the role. In your application, please provide details of how you meet the minimum criteria below: Willing and able to conduct practical outdoor work in a countryside environment in all seasons. An open mind and positive attitude towards engaging people, especially young people, from a diverse range of backgrounds. A commitment to the inclusion of marginalised or minoritised people. Effective written and spoken communication skills and the ability to use digital and social media effectively. Good people skills enabling the development of strong relationships, both internally and externally. A full UK driving licence. Additional criteria for all other applicants: Experience of delivering inspiring engagement or practical activities that help build or strengthen connections with nature and the outdoors.
