The role
As an Electrical and Mechanical Equipment Technician, you’ll play a vital part in supporting the smooth running of RAF Northolt’s operations. Working within our UK Military Aviation business, you’ll ensure that both military and civilian aircraft receive the correct Ground Support Equipment (GSE) on time—and that all servicing, repairs and rectifications are carried out to the highest standards.
You’ll be part of a small, dedicated engineering team responsible for maintaining equipment critical to safe airfield operations. This role offers the chance to develop your technical expertise, gain wider exposure to airfield operations, and help deliver engineering excellence that directly supports defence capability.
Day-to-day, you’ll have the following responsibilities:
1. Maintain, service and repair ground support equipment to the highest engineering standards
2. Work closely with the GSE Team Leader to follow best practice and engineering procedures
3. Carry out refuelling, equipment maintenance and general tasks in support of aircraft operations
4. Manage equipment via a computer‑based maintenance system
5. Plan and forecast maintenance activity and organise spare parts.
This role is full time working 37.5 hours per week and is based on site at RAF Northolt, Greater London.
Essential experience of the Electrical and Mechanical Equipment Technician:
6. Experience in workshops and ground servicing equipment environments
7. Skilled in the use of mechanical maintenance tools
8. Ability to diagnose and rectify mechanical and electrical faults
9. Able to work independently or as part of a small team
10. Strong organisational and communication skills with a customer‑focused mindset.
Qualifications for the Electrical and Mechanical Equipment Technician:
11. Trained Electro‑Mechanical Technician (Vehicle/Plant Equipment or equivalent) or time‑served
12. Normal colour perception CP2 (can be obtained via optician)
13. Full clean UK manual driving licence.
