Position: Technical Team Leader

The Role:
• You will be responsible to ensure the technical team are focussed on the right priorities, workload is spread across the team and any issues that have come up can be resolved.
• Liaising with the sales team
• Closing out technical service testing for customers, R&D development projects and QC testing on batches. There may be the occasional urgent response required to create a MSDS or statement for customers.
• From time to time you may be onsite with the customers, looking at the applications and how they can optimise or develop a better product
• Liaising with suppliers on raw materials and joining commercial negotiation meetings.
• Formulating new products and scaling up products - Developing new products and technologies getting patents for those products managing the monthly R&D meeting
• Managing the team - Monthly 1-2-1’s, monthly VIGs meetings to set and hold accountable to goals.
• Recruiting for the department
• Compliance / MSDS / REACH - Ensuring MSDS and TDS is compliance and they are on the front foot when customers request it, ISO 9001 compliance etc.
• Quality control - Ensuring the systems and processes in place are relevant for checking batches and release measures are in place.
• Budget control / P&L - Cost control management on all lab spend P&L responsibility for revenue derived from.
• Technical tests - The tech tests are completed quickly and to a good standard across the team
Requirements:
• HND or above in a science
• At least 5 years’ experience in new product development scaling up from scope to commercialisation in a relevant similar type of product such as lubricants, inks etc
• Experience working with either hot melt adhesives, waterbased adhesives or solvent based adhesives
• Knowledge of application equipment
• Full driving licence
• Engineering background – ideally degree qualified
• A fast paced self-starter who is a ‘get it done’ type person.
• You will be very technically competent, able to manage people and get the best from their team
• You will be a good organiser and methodical in your planning, as well as able to write well-structured clear concise reports
