Our client, a leading port authority, is seeking a Marine Technician to support the maintenance, reliability, and future development of its marine vessel fleet and Aids to Navigation. This is a hands-on role working at the heart of port operations, ensuring vessels and equipment remain safe, compliant, and operational in support of port activities.
Key Responsibilities:
Carry out day-to-day maintenance and repair of the port's marine vessel fleet
Support planned maintenance, inspections, audits, and compliance activities
Assist with the upkeep of Aids to Navigation, including navigation lights, buoys, and beacons
Maintain vessel stores and spares, including audits and accurate record-keeping
Support the maintenance of marine pollution response vessels and equipment
Liaise with internal departments and external contractors as required
Accurately record all maintenance activities using the port's maintenance systems
Ensure tools, equipment, and work areas are maintained to required safety standards
Job Requirements:
Significant hands-on experience working on marine diesel engines and small commercial vessels
Relevant engineering qualification to Level 3 or above
Time-served vessel maintenance experience or equivalent
Understanding of the MCA Small Commercial Vessel (SCV) / Pilot Boat Code
Previous workshop-based engineering experience
Strong engineering fault-finding and problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
Good computer literacy and record-keeping skills
Full UK driving licence (Category BE)
Strong communication skills
Desirable:
MCA Pollution 2P qualification
Experience with low-voltage electrical and electronic systems
Experience maintaining Aids to Navigation (AtoN)
First Aid certification
Crane / material handling licence
Marine Radio Operator's Certificate
Vessel handling qualifications
Additional Information:
The role is based in Milford Haven
Applicants must live within 30 miles or one hour's travel of the port
The position includes out-of-hours and call-out working on a rota basis
Work will involve outdoor activity in all weather conditions
Occasional overnight travel may be required
Full compliance with health, safety, and port authority policies is essential
