Overview
A well-established and highly regarded law firm is seeking an experienced Trusts Lawyer to join its busy team in Stamford. This is a fantastic opportunity for a specialist in trust work, or for an experienced private client lawyer with a strong background in trusts who is looking to focus their career in this area. The firm has one of the largest private client teams in the region, providing high-quality advice and support to a diverse range of clients.
The Role
You will work closely with senior members of the team, providing expert advice and handling a wide range of trust-related matters. The position offers the chance to manage complex and rewarding work while collaborating with colleagues and other professional advisers.
Key Responsibilities
* Advise clients and colleagues on the creation, administration, and termination of new and existing trusts
* Handle general trust administration, including:
o Drafting deeds and related documentation
o Preparing trust tax returns and accounts
o Using HMRCs Trust Registration Service
* Provide advice on Inheritance Tax and Capital Gains Tax planning
* Advise on Agricultural Property Relief and Business Property Relief
* Prepare Declarations of Trust
* Collaborate with other departments and external advisers on trust-related matters
* Assist with will drafting, particularly those involving trusts for complex family arrangements
* Support the administration of both taxable and non-taxable estates
* Contribute to business development and marketing activities to promote the department
Person Specification
Essential
* Solicitor or Legal Executive
* Significant experience in tax and trust matters
* Strong interest in trusts and private client work
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
* Commercial awareness and the ability to explain complex issues to non-specialists
* Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines
* Knowledge of the conveyancing process, Money Laundering Regulations, and Solicitors Accounts Rules
* IT literate with experience of case management systems
Desirable
* STEP Diploma (or willingness to study towards it)
* Experience using SOS Connect
