Role Overview
As a Portering Services Officer, you’ll respond to all portering requests to support the hospital’s operational functions. You will also interact with patients, consultants, staff and visitors with the utmost professionalism, embedding a world‑class service.
Responsibilities
* Present yourself for duty in a timely manner and maintain the highest professional standards.
* Professionally undertake patient transfers and movements via wheelchair, trolley and bed when required.
* Carry out regular documented cleaning and maintenance of department equipment used, including wheelchairs and trolleys.
* Perform the change of all medical gases as required and store empty cylinders in the appropriate area, keeping the cylinder log updated.
* Deliver and collect internal post and small deliveries to and from the hospital and the offices based on High Street Kensington during working hours, on designated days.
* Promote, support and encourage the seamless flow of information both to and from the portering team and the wider hospital.
* Investigate any patient complaints relating to the provision of portering services.
* Carry out ‘ad‑hoc’ duties as requested by the Lead Porter or other senior staff such as moving medical/hospital equipment, furniture, boxes with general office content.
* Work varying schedules—including daytime, evening/night‑time, weekend and bank holiday—so as to consistently deliver high‑standard service at all times.

* Porter experience in a hospital or hotel setting.
* Assertive and able to deal with conflict.
* Good communication and strong interpersonal skills.
* Excellent telephone manner.
* Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
* Able to work on own initiative, prioritise work and meet deadlines.
* Good time‑keeping.
* Experience of delivering customer services to an exceptionally high standard.
* Able to empathise with patients and demonstrate genuine care.
