Tradewind recruitment are looking for an exceptional Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant to make a significant contribution in the Hull area. The Job Role: Empowering Learning and Fostering Growth As a Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant, you will be an integral part of a committed educational team, focused on creating an environment where every student, particularly those with complex behavioural needs, can flourish both academically and emotionally. Your primary focus will be on providing targeted support that enables pupils to overcome barriers to learning, develop essential life skills, and participate fully in school life. This role demands a unique blend of empathy, strategic thinking, and a steadfast commitment to positive outcomes. Key Responsibilities: Driving Positive Change Daily Your day-to-day responsibilities will be diverse, challenging, and profoundly rewarding. You will be instrumental in: Providing Bespoke 1:1 Support: Delivering intensive, individualised support for pupils exhibiting significant and complex behavioural challenges, ensuring their safety, engagement, and access to learning. This involves understanding their unique triggers and developing proactive strategies. Implementing Expert Behaviour Management & De-escalation: Skillfully applying a range of effective, evidence-based strategies to proactively manage and safely de-escalate challenging behaviours. This includes using positive reinforcement, consistent boundaries, and therapeutic approaches to support self-regulation. Collaborating on Individualised Support Plans: Working in close partnership with the class teacher, SENCO, therapists, and other external professionals to meticulously develop, implement, and review highly personalised support plans (e.g., Behaviour Intervention Plans, EHCPs). Your input will be crucial in tailoring these plans to individual needs. Facilitating Academic Engagement: Providing targeted academic assistance where necessary, adapting learning materials and approaches to ensure the pupil remains fully engaged with their curriculum tasks and makes consistent progress, even amidst challenges. Cultivating a Positive and Inclusive Learning Sanctuary: Actively fostering a welcoming, secure, and truly inclusive atmosphere where every pupil feels valued, understood, and safe to express themselves, make mistakes, and learn from them. Diligent Reporting and Record-Keeping: Meticulously recording and reporting on pupil progress, behavioural incidents, and the effectiveness of interventions. This data will be vital for informing future strategies, reviewing support plans, and communicating with parents/guardians and other stakeholders. Promoting Social and Emotional Development: Guiding pupils in developing crucial social skills, emotional literacy, and resilience through structured activities and positive role modelling. Resource Preparation and Environment Management: Assisting with the preparation of bespoke resources and adapting the learning environment to best meet the sensory and behavioural needs of individual pupils. The Ideal Candidate: Your Profile for Success We are looking for an exceptional individual who not only meets but exceeds the following person specification: Extensive Experience: A minimum of 12 months of recent, demonstrable experience working directly with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), particularly with students who exhibit challenging, complex, or extreme behaviours within an educational or care setting. Experience in Alternative Provisions (AP) or Pupil Referral Units (PRU) is highly advantageous. Specialised Training: Holding current Team-Teach training certification is highly desirable. However, a strong willingness to undergo and successfully complete this essential training (provided if required) is crucial. Behavioural Acumen: Possessing a deep, nuanced understanding of the underlying causes and functions of challenging behaviour, coupled with a calm, exceptionally patient, proactive, and resilient approach to behaviour management. Exceptional Communication Skills: Demonstrating outstanding verbal and non-verbal communication skills, with the ability to build immediate rapport with pupils, effectively liaise with colleagues, and communicate sensitively with parents/carers. Collaborative Team Player: A proven ability to work seamlessly and effectively as an integral part of a multi-disciplinary team, contributing positively to shared goals and strategies. Unwavering Commitment: A profound and unwavering commitment to supporting the holistic emotional, social, and academic development of every student, believing in their potential for growth and success. Adaptability and Flexibility: A highly adaptable and flexible attitude, with the ability to respond swiftly and effectively to rapidly changing situations, unforeseen challenges, and diverse pupil needs. Empathy and Professionalism: An empathetic demeanour combined with a high degree of professionalism, maintaining confidentiality and appropriate boundaries at all times. Relevant Qualifications: Possessing relevant qualifications such as NVQ Level 2/3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning, or equivalent, is preferred. Why This Opportunity?
