Welcome to CNWL Mental Health Inpatient Services for Children and Young People. Collingham Child and Family Centre is one of six National 7 Day Inpatient settings, that work in partnership with Chelsea Hospital Schools for children aged 5 - 13 years old. We are currently recruiting for an exciting CAMHS Clinical Team Leader (RCN, RMN, RNLD).

The role is based at Collingham, a Tier 4 Children’s Mental Health Unit which provides acute inpatient and schooling for young people with complex mental health needs and behavioural problems. The service operates with a flexible shift pattern: Early 07:30 - 15:30, Late 12:30 - 20:30, Nights 20:00 - 08:00 (24/7 service).

We’re passionate about young people’s mental health outcomes, delivering patient‑centred, safe and effective care. You will support children and their families to build resilience, better coping strategies and healthy relationships through therapeutic intervention and structured, meaningful activity. We welcome applications from Registered Paediatric, Mental Health or Learning Disabilities Nurses.


Main duties of the job

* Leadership & Management
o Act as deputy for the Unit Manager, coordinating unit activities in their absence.
o Supervise and manage junior staff, including Senior Staff Nurses and HCAs.
* Clinical Care
o Lead on assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for children and families.
o Develop and oversee behavioural programmes, ensuring staff are trained in their delivery.
o Act as a key worker for a small caseload of children.
* Therapeutic & Recreational Activities
o Organise and run therapeutic groups and educational activities.
o Plan and supervise recreational activities for inpatients.
o Participate in family therapy sessions and offer practical support to families.
* Documentation & Reporting
o Maintain accurate case notes and nursing care plans.
* Training & Development
o Supervise students and participate in training activities to maintain clinical skills.
o Contribute to service development through clinical audits and research.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

* UK Registered NMC Mental Health Nurse
* Numeracy skills required for the safe administration of medicines
* Evidence of an active interest in further professional development

Desirable criteria

* Mentorship qualification


Experience

Essential criteria

* Significant years post registration experience at Band 5
* Ability to lead/work in multi‑disciplinary teams
* Ability to shift manage unit on a regular basis; deputise in the absence of the Unit Manager
* Ability to supervise junior staff

Desirable criteria

* Experience within CAMHS settings or working with children


Skills

Essential criteria

* Ability to communicate with the multi-disciplinary team, present cases, take notes of actions, update others, and conduct handovers
* Maintaining accurate, timely, concise and legible clinical records
* Appropriate, sensitive communication with service users and carers; ability to challenge where necessary
* Proficiency with electronic patient records and MS Word
* Team collaboration, reliability, enthusiasm; ability to mentor and supervise others
* Contribute to team culture and inclusivity; demonstrate leadership with junior staff
* Awareness of performance and sickness processes

Desirable criteria

* Awareness of multi‑cultural issues in acute settings
* Experience with information systems
* Experience in monitoring untrained staff and students
