Job overview The Clinical Investigation Unit, Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Hospital Trust is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Clinical Support Worker & Administrator to join our friendly and dedicated team. This is a varied role combining patient-facing clinical support with essential administrative responsibilities to ensure the smooth running of endocrine dynamic function tests and the lipid clinics. Working alongside Chemical Pathologists, Specialist Nurses and operational staff, you will play a key part in delivering safe, effective and compassionate care. The role involves supporting patients during their clinic visits, assisting with delegated clinical tasks, and maintaining accurate records and clinic schedules. Recognise and promptly report changes in patient condition to a registered professional. • Is proficient in performing Point of Care sample testing and be able to make a judgements to meet the requirements of the clinical investigation unit assessments, typically analysing samples and following the appropriate SOP. • Ensures that collected clinical samples at the unit are correctly packaged for transportation to the laboratory in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Pathology Department. • Is proficient in the use, maintenance and quality control procedures of the departmental equipment. • Works to ensure that departmental performance targets are met by continually assessing priority of own work; taking into account individual needs of the patient. To monitor patient demand levels in the clinics. • Is fully conversant with and works to relevant departmental policies and Standard Operating Procedures, ensuring that personal performance complies with ISO standards (International standards organisation). • Provides support to members of staff, and encourage best practice. • Maintain and update patient files as and when required. Contact patients for rebooking and appointment scheduling, ensuring correct print appointment cards, letters, and picklists for clinics and sent in a timely manner. • Create and manage clinic schedules, including adding slots and cancelling clinics on the departmental/trusts IT systems. • Liaise with other hospitals to retrieve blood test results following the appropriate performance indicators. Information Technology: • Is able to use the departmental /Trusts computer system to check emails and participate in e-learning • To view and move between several open applications simultaneously e.g., site specific ICE applications, EPR, printing screens • Is able to book/cancel and change appointments as necessary. • To determine/select blood request for an individual patient and print relevant/correct blood request forms • To determine urgency of appointments and select appropriate timescale for appointments. • Escalate functionality issues to the operational manager. The work requires flexible approach to hours of employment. The department can operate from 7:00am – 6:00pm Monday to Friday.
