Haematology Consultant Specialising in Myeloma
Applications are invited to join the Haematology team in West Wales as we introduce a Myeloma subspecialty as part of the Health Board's redesign of haematology services.
We are a dedicated team of 7 consultants providing a comprehensive haematology service across four hospitals in an area of outstanding beauty. The post includes support from Associate Specialists, specialty doctors, a clinical fellow and foundation trainees, with a haematology CNS team and specialist pharmacists. The aim is to develop a future‑proofed service so patients can be cared for close to home.
Responsibilities
* Clinical management of Myeloma and General Haematology with development of the Myeloma subspecialty across the Health Board.
* Inpatients: participate in attending and on‑call rota for the Carmarthen site; at peripheral sites provide consultative support to local medical teams.
* Outpatients: participate in 3–4 clinics per week in Myeloma and General Haematology, with potential for other subspecialist workload depending on experience.
* Contribute to all Haematology/Haemo-oncology activities including departmental meetings and on‑call duties.
* Work 10 clinical sessions with 2 SPA days per week; clinics at other hospital sites are required (virtual clinics can be considered).
* Engage in MDTs, including weekly Health Board‑wide MDT and opportunities with Wales MDTs.
* Support the development of a rural service to ensure excellent patient care.
Qualifications
* GMC registered on the specialist register or expected to obtain CCT within 6 months.
* Experience in the management of Myeloma and General Haematology.
Location and Services
Hywel Dda University Health Board serves Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and surrounding areas, with four main hospitals and multiple community sites. The role may involve clinics at various hospital sites; virtual clinics are an option.
