Primary Teacher (Maternity Cover Position)
Southern Montessori School is an independent, non-denominational ELC to Year 9 school. We follow the Montessori philosophy and implement a Montessori curriculum alongside the Australian Curriculum. Maria Montessori’s view of education was child-centered. It was her intention to develop a method of education that allows children to develop their potential in a non-competitive, nurturing, and carefully prepared environment, free of rewards and punishments.
We are currently seeking a Primary School Teacher for Years 4, 5, 6 on a maternity cover position.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Create a safe, healthy, clean, and organised learning environment conducive to learning through the application of Montessori principles and practices.
2. Create a positive, nurturing, and appropriately challenging learning environment that facilitates personalised learning and fosters agency, engagement, choice, and independence.
3. Hold high expectations of each student.
4. Implement humanistic intervention strategies to guide students to become self-regulated, resilient, responsible, and caring members of the school and wider community.
5. Plan, implement, and evaluate a high-quality Montessori program that addresses all areas of learning as required by State and Commonwealth curriculum guidelines.
6. Prepare and submit unit plans in line with school expectations.
7. Maintain accurate and timely records of student progress and achievement.
8. Develop and implement appropriate evaluation and assessment strategies, including the use of observation to monitor learning.
9. Uphold the school’s vision, mission, philosophy, and values, ensuring the school’s reputation is maintained.
10. Comply with all school policies and procedures.
11. Establish and maintain effective communication with colleagues.
12. Engage in appropriate communication with parents as required.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
1. South Australian Teacher’s Registration
2. Working with Children Check
3. Mandatory Notification Training
4. Montessori experience is considered favourably
