Team Manager – Assessment Team
Location: Barking & Dagenham. Role: Permanent, full‑time.
Salary: up to £61,653 per annum.
Responsibilities
* Contribute to the development and dissemination of operational instructions and provide practice guidance, using legislation, national guidelines and research to maintain high standards.
* Member of the local Management Team, supporting the Service Manager and representing the Council in multi‑agency structures.
* Supervise, appraise and communicate with team members to ensure professional service delivery and respond to national and local priorities.
* Promote evidence‑based practice and manage the effective delivery of services.
* Set team/service objectives and targets linked to national & local performance indicators, legislation and guidance; provide regular management information and analysis for continuous improvement.
* Conduct annual appraisals of all staff, identifying individual and team development needs.
* Chair and attend complex strategy meetings; support staff to prepare for multi‑agency meetings and evidence giving at court.
* Allocate and oversee new or transferred referrals, tracking interim safeguarding plans, conducting audits and preparing cases for transfer.
* Manage budget expenditure, approve appropriate spending and maintain proper monitoring within budget constraints.
* Demonstrate awareness of best‑value and opportunity‑cost implications for decisions affecting supervised cases.
* Develop effective working partnerships within the council and with key strategic partners.
* Maintain a practice focus and high awareness in listening actively to children, parents, carers and the community.
* Ensure personal and professional development and seek evidence of good practice.
Requirements
* Degree or Equivalent in Social Work.
* Current Social Work England Registration.
* Post‑qualifying Social Work Experience.
