Consultant Gastroenterologist with a special interest in IBD

Join to apply for the Consultant Gastroenterologist with a special interest in IBD role at Spacecreators bv

Job Summary

Join us to strengthen and improve IBD care for our community. As a Consultant Gastroenterologist, you will help develop a patient‑centred IBD service within a friendly and supportive department, with regular input from the University Hospital Southampton (UHS) IBD team.

Why this role?

* Advance the IBD service: develop and improve our inpatient and outpatient IBD pathways, strengthen MDT working, and help develop our surveillance endoscopy service.
* Supportive culture: work within a small, multicultural team that values collaboration, practical problem‑solving and digital innovation.
* Tertiary centre input: a visiting IBD consultant is on site one day a week, with shared pathways and advice for complex cases.
* Progression and development: opportunities to take on a service leadership role, contribute to the expansion of the departmental IBD research portfolio, or play a key role in developing our new small bowel capsule endoscopy service.

The GI Unit is an established, ambitious department bringing together gastroenterology, upper GI and colorectal surgery, emergency general surgery, and endoscopy. Our aim is simple: provide joined‑up, high‑quality care for people with gastrointestinal conditions across emergency and elective settings.

This role attracts a RRP of £5,000 and a generous relocation package of up to £8,000. Terms and conditions apply.

Main Duties

* Work as part of a team consisting of one Consultant with specialist interest in IBD, one Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner, five IBD Clinical Nurse Specialists and two IBD Pathway Navigators.
* Participate in fortnightly IBD MDT meetings with gastroenterology consultants (including UHS support), IBD CNS, Pathway Navigator, GI radiology, colorectal surgery and histopathologist.
* Provide specialist pharmacist support to enable rapid initiation of evidence‑based therapies following MDT decisions.
* Contribute to NHS England‑funded pilot site for MyMedicalRecord, a secure digital health platform that provides patients with information about their IBD care and enables proactive monitoring of disease activity and treatment response.
* Cover the acute gastroenterology rota, providing ward cover for gastroenterology inpatients two weeks in twelve, and in‑hours cover for upper GI bleeds (0800‑1800).
* Provide substantive cover at 10 PAs; fixed‑term or part‑time positions may also be considered.

Applicants should have completed specialist training in gastroenterology and be on, or eligible for, the GMC Specialist Register. Candidates should have broad experience in gastroenterology with a clear, demonstrable subspecialty interest in inflammatory bowel disease. Senior trainees within six months of CCT at interview are also welcome.

Benefits

Flexible working, NHS discounts, minimum of 35 days paid holiday pro‑rata, a generous pension scheme. On‑site benefits include car parking (fee applies), leisure centre, day nursery and holiday play scheme.
