The Opportunity
Graduate Environmental and Social (E&S) Advisory Consultant
We're looking for graduate consultants to join our team of bright professionals. You will join a team that has established a reputation amongst Multi‑lateral Financial Institutions, Equator Principle Financial Institutions, and Export Credit Agencies for advising Lenders on environmentally and/or socially challenging and complex infrastructure projects. We deliver Environmental and Social Due Diligence (ESDD), environmental and social supervision/monitoring, and other environmental and social impact assessment related assignments for flagship Projects in Eastern Europe, Caucasus, Central Asia and Africa. As an E&S Advisory Graduate you will support the delivery of E&S impact and risk management assignments, including due diligence and Lenders monitoring assignments for internationally high‑profile infrastructure projects aimed at ensuring that risks to the environment are avoided, reduced, and mitigated and no‑one is left worse‑off because of development.
Over time, you may have the opportunity to travel overseas to observe and monitor E&S impact mitigation in action, as well as influencing Lenders and their clients. As part of an enthusiastic and ambitious team, you will also help shape the growth of E&S advisory services and skills and collaborate with colleagues across all Arup regions. This includes sharing your ideas and contributing to innovation and research in new products and services that aim to contribute to our shared goal of sustainable development globally.
Our Current Project Portfolio Covers Infrastructure (Rail and Road) and Power (Hydropower and Geothermal) Developments. The Team has recently been awarded a number of internationally high‑profile assignments and has strong growth aspirations. A Graduate in the IESA Team will:
* Report to the Associate leading the International Environmental and Social Advisory services
* Contribute to and manage stand‑alone tasks for Lenders Environmental and Social Advisory assignments, including E&S Gap Analyses, E&S Due Diligence Reports, Environmental and Social Action Plans (ESAP), E&S Impact Assessments, monitoring and evaluation assignments, amongst others
* Support the team in business development activities, such as preparation of promotional and capability materials
* Help coordinate due diligence, monitoring and evaluation assignments, including subcontractor management
* Work independently and manage your own activities with some supervision and guidance on a day‑to‑day basis
* Be an effective communicator presenting information in writing as well as verbally
* Establish and maintain relationships with external stakeholders and colleagues within Arup
* Assist in and undertake other tasks as directed, including support to UK infrastructure projects as necessary
* Undertake project management activities, including programming and budget control

* Student or graduate with a bachelor’s or higher degree in a relevant subject (environmental and/or social management, physical or human geography, environmental science, international development, social development, rural development, ecology, or related subject) (Minimum 2.1) or equivalent
