About the Role
You will work across clinical, technical, educational and administrative areas, with a mix of face‑to‑face, telephone and virtual patient contact, supporting over 26,000 patients across our network.
Responsibilities
* Managing daily prescription and pharmacy queries
* Supporting prescription coordinators and clinical pharmacists
* Processing discharge summaries and medicines reconciliation
* Supporting medicines optimisation, audits and quality improvement
* Managing MHRA and Eclipse alerts and associated actions
* Supporting vaccination programmes and antimicrobial stewardship
* Providing training and support on safe handling of medicines and EPS
* Supporting clinics, including blood pressure and medicines monitoring
* Managing medication supply issues, including out‑of‑stock medicines and ETP queries
* Medicines reconciliation, including post‑discharge support
* Supporting and contributing to medication reviews
* Running blood pressure and medicines monitoring clinics (including care homes)
* Promoting effective medicines use (e.g. inhaler technique, adherence support)
* Supporting electronic prescribing and dispensing
* Managing MHRA and Eclipse safety alerts
* Running patient searches, audits and follow‑up actions
* Supporting patient communications and safety letters
* Undertaking clinical audits and quality improvement projects
* Supporting QOF, enhanced services and prescribing incentive schemes
* Supporting vaccination programmes for patients and staff as required
* Supporting cost‑effective prescribing and medicines switches
* Acting as a point of contact for ICB cost‑saving initiatives
* Supporting antimicrobial stewardship initiatives
* Delivering training on safe and legal handling of medicines and EPS
* Supporting reception and admin teams with prescription workflow
* Working closely with community pharmacy, secondary care and mental health teams
* Supporting trainees and learners within the pharmacy team
Qualifications
* GPhC registered Pharmacy Technician
* BTEC / NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Pharmaceutical Sciences
* Experience in community, hospital or primary care pharmacy
* Strong organisational, analytical and communication skills
* Able to work independently and across multiple sites, good working knowledge of primary care, evidence‑based medicine and medicines optimisation
* Understanding of primary care prescribing, rational prescribing principles and medicines legislation
* Sound clinical pharmacy knowledge, including terminology
* Awareness of the NHS agenda, national priorities and service targets
* Confident IT user with strong Microsoft Office skills and the ability to use or quickly learn GP clinical systems
* Ability to analyse prescribing data and support quality improvement
* High level of accuracy and attention to detail
* Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders
* Clear understanding of confidentiality, data protection and information governance
* Able to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, adapting to change in a busy environment
* Experience of working as a qualified, registered pharmacy technician in Primary Care or hospital pharmacy
