Cambridge
Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust
Posted: 11 July
Offer description

We are recruiting for a Sustainability Lead to act as the Trust's professional adviser on all Sustainability & Waste matters at Merseycare NHS Foundation Trust. The role includes implementing initiatives under this remit, including taking a project lead role in Delivering a Net Zero National Health Service as mandated by legislation through the Health and Care Act 2022.

The post involves ownership of the Merseycare Trust Green Plan, embedding it into daily trust operations, and providing professional leadership on environmental statutory compliance, waste management, energy and utility procurement, technical advice, monitoring, reduction programmes, project management, reporting, governance, and partnership working. This includes functions outside direct control, such as supply chain activity, and wider integration with STP and national strategies.

The Head of Sustainability will be the Trust’s lead specialist, responsible for developing and embedding sustainability principles within the organization. The successful candidate will ensure the Green Plan is implemented across the Trust, engaging clinical and corporate teams to meet the Trust’s objectives and promote sustainability organization-wide and externally.

The postholder will manage and deliver sustainability projects, oversee the Trust’s sustainability action plan, monitor progress against targets, and develop funding strategies for energy and carbon-saving initiatives. Responsibilities also include developing auditing, monitoring, evaluation mechanisms, and promoting sustainability awareness through communication and training.

Mersey Care is one of the largest trusts providing physical and mental health services in the North West, serving over 1.4 million people across the region, with services extending to North Wales and the Midlands. We offer inpatient and community services supporting physical health, mental health, learning disability, addiction, and brain injury. Mersey Care is among the only three trusts in the UK with high secure mental health facilities.

Our core commitment is to ‘perfect care’—safe, effective, positive, timely, equitable, and efficient. We support staff, collaborate with service users, families, and carers to co-design services, and are currently undertaking a significant transformation to improve service quality and reduce costs.

Flexible working requests will be considered for all roles.
