Job description
Key Responsibilities
1. Support pupils with a range of additional learning needs, including autism spectrum conditions, learning difficulties, physical disabilities, and social, emotional, and mental health needs
2. Work with individuals or small groups to reinforce learning activities planned by the teacher
3. Assist pupils with personal care where required (training provided)
4. Help implement Individual Development Plans (IDPs) and behaviour support strategies
5. Promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and social interaction
6. Support pupils’ communication, independence, and life skills
7. Prepare learning materials and assist with classroom organisation
8. Observe, monitor, and record pupil progress, feeding back to teaching staff
9. Support pupils during transitions, break times, and off-site activities
10. Maintain a safe, caring, and inclusive environment at all times
11. Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and external agencies
12. Follow safeguarding, health and safety, and school policies at all times
Person Specification
Essential Criteria
13. Experience of working with children or young people, ideally within an SEN setting
14. A caring, patient, and resilient approach
15. Ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff
16. Good communication and teamwork skills
17. Willingness to support pupils with a variety of complex needs
18. Basic literacy and numeracy skills (GCSEs or equivalent desirable)
19. Understanding of safeguarding responsibilities
20. Willingness to undertake training and professional developmen
