As part of this exciting Apprenticeship opportunity, you'll benefit from dedicated training time—at least 20% of your working hours—to help you successfully achieve the Level 2 Property Maintenance Operative Apprenticeship. This structured learning is designed to equip you with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to thrive in a governance role, with full details available on the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education (IfATE) website. It’s a fantastic way to grow your career while making a real impact in local government. At the end of the apprenticeship contract the postholder will have developed the necessary skills and experience to be able to: Assist in undertaking general repair and maintenance tasks to public offices, public conveniences, open spaces, car parks and other buildings and areas maintained by the Council Help undertake minor works of a general building and/or civil engineering nature and ensure areas are made safe and secured throughout a works programme. Assist in providing maintenance cover and support to all Departments of the Council. Be a key holder. Set and maintain high standards of quality and efficiency in all activities undertaken. Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities (Please see Job Description and Person Specification for more details): Health & Safety Compliance: Ensure all work is carried out safely and in line with Council policies and best practices. Maintenance & Repairs: Assist with general repairs, maintenance tasks, and minor works across Council facilities, including public buildings and car parks. Operational Support: Help source materials, supervise minor contractors, and respond to urgent maintenance needs efficiently. Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of work completed, including time, materials, and inspection data. Team Collaboration: Work closely with staff across departments to minimise disruption and support the effective delivery of services What You’ll Need (Please see Job Description and Person Specification for more details): Willingness to Learn: Enthusiastic about undertaking apprenticeship training and developing new skills in building maintenance. Communication & IT Skills: Able to communicate effectively in spoken and written English, with basic IT skills including Microsoft Word and Excel. Practical Abilities: Some experience or knowledge of minor works, with good organisational skills and the ability to work independently. Physical Requirements: Physically fit, able to work in confined spaces, and confident using hand tools and machinery. Flexibility & Responsibility: Holds a full, clean driving licence and is willing to attend emergency callouts outside normal hours. Apprenticeships are funded by the UK Government and there are some rules which we need to consider to establish eligibility for this opportunity. In particular: You will have been a resident in the UK for the last 3 years prior to the start of the apprenticeship or fit the criteria of eligible residency status in the Apprenticeship Funding Rules. You do not already hold the same or similar qualifications. The rules employers and training providers must follow to get funding for training and assessing apprentices in England.
