Role: Project Manager
Reports to: Contracts Manager
Employment Basis: Contract
Location: Knowsley, with UK and some overseas travel as required.
Job Purpose:
To plan, organise, and manage allocated projects to ensure they are completed on time, within budget, and to the satisfaction of the client and Clarke Energy.
Majority of time spent:
Day-to-day management of the project and the client relationship.
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Project Manager to lead and manage the design, execution, and commissioning of large-scale, complex EPC projects in a heavily regulated and compliance-led sector. In this role, you will lead a dynamic team of Clarke Energy staff and contractors, with full accountability for a flagship project. You will ensure its successful delivery on schedule, within budget, and in adherence to the highest quality and compliance standards.
This role is initially based at our HQ in Knowsley for approximately 6 months during the design phase, followed by a 24-month construction period where your focus will shift to on-site project delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Lead and manage the project team throughout the entire lifecycle, ensuring performance and delivery meet timescales, budgets, and quality standards.
2. Oversee the early-stage design development for a complex engineering project, ensuring compliance with regulatory and industry standards within a highly governed construction sector.
3. Conduct regular team meetings and one-on-ones, providing feedback and guidance to ensure progress is on track.
4. Provide coaching, training, and development opportunities to enhance team skills and performance.
5. Liaise with clients to understand and interpret their requirements, communicating any deviations from the contract to the Contracts Manager.
6. Negotiate project timescales and costs with clients, securing agreement on deliverables.
7. Develop a detailed project plan covering all technical, commercial, and installation tasks for progress tracking and reporting.
8. Ensure Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality standards are integrated into project plans and adhered to at all stages.
9. Allocate resources to achieve project goals on time and to the required quality.
10. Negotiate with contractors and suppliers to secure the best value on materials and services.
11. Monitor project progress, resolving delays or issues as needed.
12. Maintain strong client relationships through regular communication and satisfaction management.
13. Report project status to the Contracts Manager, highlighting any difficulties and actions taken to address them.
Essential Qualifications & Skills:
* Proven experience in project management within an engineering environment.
* Experience leading the early design phase of projects in highly regulated construction environments, ensuring compliance with complex standards.
* Knowledge of Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental management policies and procedures.
* Experience with the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM 2015).
* Excellent client management skills.
* Solid budget management experience.
* Working knowledge of construction contracts such as FIDIC, NEC, and JCT.
* Proficient IT skills – Word, Excel, and Microsoft Project.
* Coaching and team development skills.

Desirable Experience:
* Technical background with knowledge of projects requiring high levels of compliance, such as Nuclear or Petrochemical sectors.
* Degree, HND, or HNC in Engineering.
* Project Management qualification.
