HSE Manager
Main purpose of the job
To develop and implement Health, Safety, Environmental & Sustainability best practice, ensuring the plant complies with current health, safety and environmental legislation, approved codes of practice, and guidance in relation to employment and service provision. Work proactively with managers to establish and maintain safe systems of work and a safe environment for colleagues and visitors. The HSE Manager supports the AGM to ensure that the plant consistently meets the HSES requirements of Artifex Interior Systems and complies with relevant Artifex standards and local legislative mandates, engaging with internal and external stakeholders when necessary. Dedicated to continuous enhancement of safety, sustainability topics and environmental performance, the role includes leadership, coaching of the site team, gathering pertinent HSES data and reporting, evaluating the effectiveness of site management systems, initiating corrective actions, implementing improvements and ensuring all local procedures align with Artifex Interior Systems requirements.
Main missions and results
* Support the HSES Director – action plans, meetings and technical support.
* Support ISO14001 / ISO45001 internal cross‑over audits – 3‑day internal audit against ISO standards, familiarity with HSE management systems and ISO norms, and working knowledge of ISO50001.
* SIP Audits (systemic improvement process) – review audits against the Artifex standards, review SIP during integrated audits.
* HSE communications, HSE Alerts, Good Behaviours – writing and preparing communications.
* Tracking open points from audits and investigation reports / roadmaps – collate and report findings.
* Accident / incident analysis – identify trends and 5‑why root cause analysis, collate and report findings.
* Process statistical data – reports for the site management team.
* Improvement plans – create and manage continuous improvement plans.
* Experience in document management – ensure all documents are controlled according to correct standard.
* Support Health, Safety, Environmental & Sustainability committee meetings.
* Outline and define how HSE/EHS requirements will be met from a management systems point of view (GDS, global documentation system).
* Ensure HSES standards applicable and customer requirements are permanently met for the site under responsibility.
* Document the local management system in a manual and required documents; provide feedback to the HSES Director for best practice communications to the UK Group.
* Support in reporting audit results and status of related corrective actions.
* Ensure deviations found during internal system audits are closed within the appropriate period.
* Advise Management Teams and the Management Systems Manager on measures to increase management system effectiveness.
* Train and coach plant management to establish and maintain a documented system meeting ISO14001 / ISO45001 and other customer requirements.
* Support and guide location during preparation for third‑party audits; ensure deviations are closed within the appropriate period for audited plants and departments.
* Keep informed on changes to health, safety and environmental legislation; review and add new legislation to legal registers.
* Participate in the Management Review ISO14001/ISO45001; report on HSE status and advise on improvement activities.
* Support implementation of actions related to HSES programmes.
* Coach management on HSES matters.
* Maintain knowledge of all procedures related to position and activities; model adherence and require the same from subordinates; ensure consistent application of company policies and procedures in performance evaluation.
* Clear communication, coaching, and support employees to address HSES concerns.
* Communicate Artifex Interior Systems Policies and Procedures, including the ZERO Tolerance Policy, and ensure escalation of HSE concerns to corporate management.
* Act as a support function for the UK team.
* Manage and report the sustainability Kaizen process.
* Ensure all employees and visitors receive the correct HSES induction, aligned to group requirements.
* Capture and report incident statistics, identify trends, and track/drive site corrective action.
Preferred skills and experience
* Previous experience in the automotive industry, including quality and/or HSE Engineer roles or HSE Manager/Specialist experience in the production sector.
* Experience in document management; ensure all documents are controlled according to correct standard.
* Engineering background in chemistry, machinery or mechanics; degree related to environment, health & safety, or equivalent education.
* Knowledge of ISO14001 & ISO45001, applicable HSE legislation, customer requirements, and ISO/IATF16949.
* Fluent in English.
* PC Literacy.
* Proficient in MS‑Office.
* Excellent organisational and communication skills.
* Empathic and active listener.
* Ability to manage several tasks and activities.
* Understanding of new and existing HSES principles, technologies and processes with a passion for continuous learning.
* Proven interpersonal and influencing skills.
