Commodity Manager - SNBTS

About the Organisation:

National Services Scotland (NSS) is a national NHS Board operating right at the heart of NHSScotland providing invaluable support and advice at a strategic and operational level. NSS supports customers to deliver their services more efficiently and effectively and we offer shared services on a national scale using best-in-class systems and standards. Our priority is always the same – to improve the health and well-being of the people of Scotland. We do this by working in partnership with colleagues across Health and Social Care to deliver fit for purpose solutions and systems, delivering high quality services that help our stakeholders to free up resources so they can be re-invested into essential services.

The Post:

This post is based within the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service (SNBTS) Procurement team, which forms part of NSS Procurement and operates under National Procurement – the recognised Procurement Centre of Expertise for Health in Scotland.

The Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service (SNBTS) plays a critical role in delivering blood, tissues, cells and advanced therapeutic products to NHS Scotland, alongside specialist testing and diagnostic services. The SNBTS Procurement team works collaboratively to deliver best value, compliance, and strategic sourcing across SNBTS operations. Based at the Jack Copland Centre on the Heriot Watt Research Campus in Edinburgh, the team provides a comprehensive range of procurement and stores support services, including onward distribution of finished plasma products to NHS Scotland pharmacies.

An opportunity has arisen for a Commodity Manager to join this dynamic team. This role is pivotal in supporting SNBTS’s procurement workplan and ensuring alignment with NSS Procurement strategies. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the National Procurement national centre of expertise while supporting SNBTS’s vital services. Working closely with the Procurement Manager and stakeholders across SNBTS, you will manage a diverse portfolio of goods and services, including strategic managed services and critical supplies for collection, manufacturing, and testing processes.

The Candidate:

We are looking for an experienced procurement professional with a strong track record in managing complex supply chains and delivering best value outcomes. You will bring proven experience in strategic procurement, supplier performance management, and contract lifecycle oversight, ideally within a regulated or complex organisational environment. Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline (such as Procurement, Business, or Supply Chain) or with equivalent experience, you will hold or be working towards Membership of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (MCIPS) or equivalent. Advanced IT literacy, including data analysis and presentation skills, is essential, along with excellent written, verbal, and presentation abilities.

You will be a motivated, adaptable team player who can work independently and collaboratively, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritise effectively.

Location and Working Pattern:

This post will be based at The Jack Copland Centre, Edinburgh.

Currently hybrid working, with regular attendance on site required.

The work pattern for this post is Monday to Friday, 37 hours per week.

It is a condition of this employment that you must live and remain a resident within the UK for the post in which you will be employed with NSS.

Benefits:

Our benefits package includes pension scheme, comprehensive range of work life balance policies, occupational health services, learning resource centres and discounted leisure, financial and shopping benefits. HR Benefits Brochure.
