Work tasks include office based tasks, site-based tasks, and highway inspections. You can be expected to be office/site based 3 to 4 days per week & working from home/office 1 to 2 days per week. You will be expected to provide your own vehicle, for which mileage will be paid.
Main duties: Receiving enquiries, investigating, inspecting, and providing responses on the Council’s systems. These can include tasks such as assessing highway defects for prioritisation, insurance claims, highway encroachments, dropped kerb applications, updates to the national street gazetteer, highway enforcement & issuing notices, highway adoption queries and stopping up requests and highway licenses. Meetings and liaison with the Council’s contractor including ordering works. You may also be involved with assisting planned works.
Essential experience – Candidates will be expected to demonstrate: (1) a sound knowledge of highway construction and defect identification. (2) an understanding of highways asset management. (3) a high level of communication skill, both verbally & in writing. Desirable – (1) Local Authority experience in a Highway department. (2) Knowledge & application of the Highways Act 1980. (3) Proficient in using Microsoft suite of products and other software applications. Beneficial – (1) City & Guilds Highway Inspection and Monitoring qualification. (2) Knowledge & application of NRSWA and/or street work qualification. (3) CSCS Card.
