About the Role
They are looking for a clinician with broad experience in general gastroenterology and a defined subspecialty interest in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). The successful applicant will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality elective and emergency gastroenterology services, contributing to the department’s established IBD pathways, MDT working, endoscopy delivery, and service development initiatives.
You will join a cohesive consultant team working closely with Clinical Nurse Specialists, Pathway Navigators, endoscopists, colorectal surgeons, hepatology colleagues, and an extensive multidisciplinary network. The post offers genuine scope for clinical leadership, service innovation, teaching, research, and quality improvement.
The Department
The Gastroenterology Department at has grown significantly in recent years and now offers a comprehensive service delivered by a diverse team of consultants, trainees, specialist nurses, and advanced practitioners. The department benefits from strong internal links with hepatology, colorectal surgery, the GI Unit, upper and lower GI cancer teams, and an excellent endoscopy service supported by JAG-accredited clinicians.
The IBD service is particularly well-established, with a large specialist nursing team, robust clinical pathways, and active involvement in patient education, flare management, and biologics monitoring. You will be joining a group committed to delivering personalised care and continually enhancing clinical outcomes.

Who We Are Looking For
We seek a consultant who is committed to excellence in patient care, collaborative working, and service development. Essential attributes include:
* Completion (or near completion) of specialist training in gastroenterology and general internal medicine
* Broad experience in general gastroenterology and competence in OGD and colonoscopy (JAG accreditation expected)
* Clinical expertise in managing IBD and complex GI presentations
* Strong communication skills and a patient-centred approach
* A track record of effective multidisciplinary working
* Willingness to contribute to teaching, clinical governance, and service improvement
* Confidence in managing acute GI emergencies, including upper GI bleeding
* A clear commitment to safety, professionalism, and high-quality clinical standards
