Mechanical Day Technician

06:30 – 18:30 & 18:30 – 06:30 (Continental Shift Pattern) 42hrs a week


Position Concept:

* Detailed understanding of Critical Facilities/Data Centre infrastructure (Mechanical and Electrical).
* Responsible for inspection, operation and maintenance of all associated assets, with a primary focus on mechanical asset maintenance (Planned, Reactive and Corrective).
* Ownership of any issues related to Mechanical systems within the facility to increase reliability through proactive maintenance standards.
* Support the Data Centre Shift Leader in overall delivery of day‑to‑day operations in line with established processes and procedures.


Key Tasks:

* Operate all Mechanical systems within the Data Centre efficiently, including isolations and operations.
* Consider business risk and energy use in all activities.
* Recommend improvements and provide concise technical reports when required.
* Ensure Specialist Sub Contractor visits comply with approved SOPs and change requests.
* Sign off on Specialist Sub Contractor worksheets and communicate quality of work and recommendations.
* Provide engineering relief cover during absences within the engineering team.
* Accurately record all completed work orders and critical spares/stock items used.
* Attend weekly team meetings and client meetings as requested.
* Prepare MOPs, SOPs and EOPs, and undertake relevant EOP scenario drills.
* Assist in daily shift handover, noting significant events or activities.
* Respond to all Data Centre client requests within SLA.
* Participate in QHSE compliance activities such as Hazard/Near Miss reporting and Toolbox Talks.
* Follow CEM processes and procedures for all work orders.
* Liaise with supply chain for ordering M&E components for remedial works.
* Attend nominated training courses aligned with the DCS training matrix.
* Undertake Site Specific Technical Assessments and Skills Gap Analysis at intervals defined by management.
* Ensure all plant rooms under control meet required show‑site standards.
* Evaluate and raise any potential risks, assessing impact, causes and mitigation opportunities.
* Contribute to continuous improvement of safe systems of work, ensuring compliance with QHSE policy and procedures.


Scope of Services:

* Building management system.
* Lighting control system.
* CMMS.
* Air conditioning system, DFUs, FCUs, AHUs and ACUs.
* Chillers and CHW infrastructure.
* Boilers and heating systems.
* DRUPS and ancillary components.
* Single‑phase and three‑phase motors.
* Emergency lighting.
* Operation of HV systems (training available if required).
* Fire detection and fire suppression systems.
* Lifts.
* Pumps and VFDs.
* PDU and distribution boards – LV.
* Other Data Centre related infrastructure.


Personal Specification:

* Minimum of 5 years relevant experience in Data Centre or Critical Environment operations.
* Mechanical Authorised Person.
* HNC/HND in a relevant field or an associated Mechanical Apprenticeship (or similar).
* Strong communication skills, able to deal with all levels of staff.
* Proactive in achieving operational excellence.
* Good IT and report writing skills.
* Demonstrated commitment and past performance in a suitably challenging environment.
