THE ROLE
We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Planning Consultant with good commercial experience to join our ambitious team at LWMTS. Working closely with Artemis Christophi, a Nationally recognised and Award-winning senior planning executive, no two days will be the same, as you’ll be busy working on a range of interesting and diverse planning applications. JOB PURPOSE
Management of small major developments case load as directed by the Principal Consultant (major developments). Process all listed building consents and handle conservation queries.
Role includes the processing of relevant planning appeals, and minor enforcement matters, attending and presenting at planning committee and supporting/delivering the council’s functions as local planning authority.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
* Assess and process major planning applications (small caseload).
* To assess each case and formulate recommendations as deemed appropriate for determination by delegated authority or planning committee.
* To process all listed building consents and handle conservation enquiries.
* To assess and investigate planning enforcement enquiries and report to senior officers when required and report to senior officers.
* To prepare appeal statements, and assist/represent the local planning authority at informal hearings and public inquiries etc. (depending upon experience and complexity).
* To respond to general planning related correspondence.
* To liaise with the core team on the policy aspects of planning applications.
* To provide advice to applicants and the general public and general planning related correspondence,
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
* Degree or Diploma in Town and Country Planning.
* Knowledge of urban design/conservation related applications – not essential
* Experience in planning (ideally development management), including dealing with minor/non-householder planning applications and the preparation of clear and precise reports related thereto.
* Ability to communicate clearly with members of the public, other professional and colleagues on relevant planning matters - both verbally and in writing.
* Systematic and organised with the ability to manage own caseload to meet competing deadlines.
* Ability to negotiate improvements on minor planning proposals.
* Knowledge & understanding of planning/environmental law & procedures.
* Capable of taking projects from concept to completion.
* Excellent reporting skills with ability to write clearly and concisely.
* Excellent presentational skills.
