Overview
Part‑time available – 22 hours per week (Wednesday, Thursday & Friday).
The job holder will undertake the full range of work with people on probation before and after sentence. This includes assessment, sentence implementation, offender management and producing reports. The job holder will provide case‑management support to a full range of people on probation, utilising service procedures and practice directions that underpin professional judgement.

Salary and progression
Starting salary £26,475. Annual pay progression is available through the Competency Based Framework (CBF) with pay increases tied to competence growth. Pay band ranges are increased annually in line with Civil Service Pay guidance.
Working hours and posting
Part‑time 22 hrs per week (Wednesday, Thursday & Friday). Personnel may be based at a wide variety of office, court, team or prison locations within the Probation Service region. Allocations are made according to business need.
Right to work
Applicants must have the legal right to live and work in the United Kingdom and within the Civil Service. In accordance with current immigration rules, this role is not eligible to sponsor a Skilled Worker visa. Applicants who held a Skilled Worker visa before 22 July 2025 may be considered for sponsorship after appropriate checks.
Application Process
1. Complete the short application form and provide responses to Civil Service behaviours and experience‑based questions.
2. Take the Civil Service Judgement Test (CSJT) – a two‑part test assessing decision‑making skills.
3. Optional practice test is available before the CSJT stage.
4. Successful completion of the CSJT leads to application sift; if passed, advance to interview.
5. In cases of high application volume, candidates may be assessed against the lead behaviour only; there is no guarantee of progression beyond any stage.
