Reports to: Community Lead/Deputy Community Lead
Type of Contact: Permanent, subject to completion a three month probationary period.
Place of Work: St Mary Magdalene Church, Magdalen Square, Gorleston, NR31 7BZ
Hours: 37.5 hrs per week (full time, with possibility of part time min. 22hrs or job share)
Pay: £24,834-£27,000 per annum, depending on experience, pro rata
Pension: NEST Pension offered
Holiday: 25 days (pro rata)
Responsibilities:
1. Personal Presence and Engagement
1.
1. Seeking out the most vulnerable accessing the community hub
2. Being a Christian and available presence
3. Providing one to one advice and support, taking on individual cases and supporting the individual as they follow through to meet their goals.
2. Holistic Triage and Signposting
* Being available for conversations and opportunities to listen, triage, signpost and provide ongoing casework support
* Leading in knowledge of current signposting options (including for those provided by the church)
* Nurturing a signposting culture amongst volunteers
* Engaging well with and building partnerships with agencies/charities/organisations on the behalf of clients/guests
3. Recording and Administration
4. Active participation on our Community Leadership team and the shared responsibilities of that, including for safeguarding and care of the building

o Attending and taking a part in church community leadership meetings, church prayer meetings and community group team meetings as requested/needed.
o Taking responsibility as a Christian leader in the church and wider community.
o Seeking out and receiving appropriate training and development
o Being part of the Safeguarding Leadership team of St Mary Magdalene and nurturing a safe and healthy culture.
o Overseeing and taking responsibility for an area of work with vulnerable adults and children, including offering advice
5. Support and facilitation of our community groups/services
* Giving leadership support to individual community groups as required/requested, but always looking to develop/enable the leadership of others, especially volunteers.
* Being available to regularly attend/visit the various community groups at St Mary Magdalene as much as possible.
* Being part of the oversight team of the Bridge lunch club and initially at least being the regular Host of the Bridge lunch club
* Being the lead Foodbank Support Coordinator
* Being actively present and available in as many of our community groups as possible and building connection with the community groups renting the building.
* Sourcing, organising and supporting training that strengthens the most vulnerable in their life skills and personal development, e.g. Cooking on a Budget or Computer Skills, maths and English etc.
6. Facilitation of the volunteering of church and community members providing volunteering team leadership when required
Our Community Hub:
Our model is built around an intentional journey that may see a local resident grow from a place of distress and distrust to a life of participation and progression. People we support might join us at any point on this journey, and our activities are chosen to allow them a place to join in, and move forwards in a way that works for them.
We deliver these in four stages: Crisis Relief, Community Foundations, Personal Resilience and Progression. These are worked out through our emergency foodbank, fuel bank and household provision, through more than ten volunteer-led community groups and projects and our five annual community events, through our onsite signposting and advice services, and through our structured volunteering programme. ‘Soul Food’ (our Christian discipleship services and courses) is available to all on the journey. We see people move from fear and isolation to confidence and hope.
