Lead Estates Technician Supervisor (Facilities & Maintenance)

We are looking for a proactive and experienced Lead Estates Technician to take on a supervisory role within a busy estates team. This position is ideal for someone with strong leadership skills and a background in facilities maintenance, estates management, or trades, who is ready to combine hands-on work with managing and guiding a team.
The Role
As Lead Estates Technician, youll be the working supervisor for a team of estates technicians, ensuring that day-to-day maintenance and facilities operations run smoothly. You will coordinate planned and reactive work across a large and varied estate, prioritising tasks in line with service level agreements (SLAs) and operational needs.
Your responsibilities will include:
* Supervising the Estates Technician team managing workload, task allocation, and ensuring high-quality delivery.
* Planning & prioritising work working with the Estates Services Manager, helpdesk, and CAFM system to schedule tasks efficiently.
* Hands-on maintenance & repair assisting with general repairs, decorating, fixture replacements, furniture assembly, and upkeep across academic, residential, and staff housing.
* Event & site support coordinating and assisting with the setup and breakdown of events, exams, and open days, ensuring logistics and facilities are in place.
* Porterage & logistics overseeing the movement of furniture, equipment, and supplies around the estate.
* Grounds & external duties supervising seasonal tasks such as gritting, minor road repairs, and keeping outdoor areas safe and functional.
* Waste management oversight coordinating removal, recycling, and upkeep of waste areas.
* Health & safety & compliance monitoring safety standards, reporting risks, and supporting statutory compliance checks.
This is a leadership position where youll play a key role in keeping a large and complex estate running efficiently, while mentoring and supporting your team.
About You
Were looking for someone who brings:
* Experience in a supervisory or team leader role within estates, facilities, or maintenance.
* A multi-skilled trade or facilities background (NVQ / City & Guilds desirable).
* Strong organisational and planning skills with the ability to prioritise workloads.
* Confident IT skills, ideally with CAFM system experience.
* A team-focused approach, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* A full driving licence (preferred, due to vehicle use on site).
Youll be a practical problem-solver with a positive, can-do attitude, able to balance hands-on work with team management.
