Role Overview
Band 6 midwife with a special interest in caring for women with complex social factors and their families is needed to join the Gateway Team of midwives at The Royal London Hospital. The team provides continuity of care to vulnerable pregnant women, including teenagers, women with learning disabilities, victims of domestic abuse, substance abusers, women experiencing moderate to severe mental health issues, and those with complex safeguarding issues. Care is delivered across community clinics, women’s homes, and through opportunities for intrapartum care in line with Better Births.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide antenatal and postnatal care to a caseload of vulnerable women in community settings and at their homes.
* Deliver intrapartum care where required, ensuring high standards of safety and support.
* Work in partnership with a multidisciplinary team, including Specialist Safeguarding Midwives, Specialist Midwives for Perinatal Mental Health, Substance Misuse, Social Services, Perinatal Mental Health Team, Obstetric and Psychiatric Consultants, Health Visitors, Family Nurses, Neonatal Consultants and Nursing staff.
* Ensure comprehensive, compassionate, and holistic patient care, prioritising individualised support and safeguarding.
Qualifications and Experience
* Band 6 registered midwife with a proven special interest in vulnerable populations.
* Excellent communication, time‑management, and proactive team‑working skills.
* Good understanding of maternity safeguarding and related procedures.
* Experience in community and home‑based midwifery care is desirable.
