Trainer/Assessor in Plumbing & Heating – The Role

Wiltshire College & University Centre is seeking a Trainer/Assessor in Plumbing & Heating to join our dedicated team. As a Trainer/Assessor, you will embark on a rewarding journey guiding and mentoring apprentices throughout their training programmes. Drawing on your expertise in plumbing and gas qualifications, you will deliver engaging practical sessions, assess learner progress, and provide invaluable one‑to‑one support that helps apprentices build confidence and competence.
Based at our Salisbury Campus – a hub of innovation and learning, you will also visit apprentices in the workplace, ensuring they receive consistent guidance and real‑world feedback that connects classroom learning with on‑site experience.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver high‑quality, engaging training sessions covering plumbing installation, maintenance, and related systems at a range of levels.
* Assess apprentices in college and in the workplace, ensuring they meet qualification standards and industry expectations.
* Support apprentices in achieving their technical qualifications, functional skills, and End Point Assessments (EPAs).
* Develop lesson plans, schemes of work, and assessment materials that promote active learning and practical skill development.
* Provide constructive feedback, coaching, and pastoral support to help learners overcome challenges and achieve success.
* Maintain accurate records of learner progress, attendance, and assessment outcomes in line with college and awarding body requirements.
* Liaise with employers to monitor on‑site progress, strengthen relationships, and ensure a seamless training experience.
* Uphold high standards of health & safety and professional conduct within workshops and on employer premises.
* Contribute to curriculum development and quality assurance activities, ensuring delivery remains current and aligned with industry standards.
You
* Is a qualified Plumber holding Plumbing and Gas qualifications (minimum Level 3).
* Has a strong understanding of current industry practices and a passion for developing others.
* Is a natural educator‑patient, supportive, and genuinely enthusiastic about helping apprentices succeed.
* Possesses excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to engage effectively with learners, employers, and colleagues.
* Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability, thriving in a fast‑paced, ever‑evolving educational environment.
* Holds Literacy and Numeracy at Level 2 (GCSE C/4) or equivalent.
* Holds or be willing to work towards Assessors Award (A1 or TDLB 32,33) within 6 months of appointment.
