Managing Consultant | Recruiting High-Tech Engineering & Scientific Talent (UK & Globally)
Scientist (Materials / Formulation)
If you are passionate about science, enjoy experimental work, and are motivated by learning how materials behave beyond the lab, this could be a great opportunity.
This role sits within a fast-moving, materials-focused business developing next-generation bio-based materials for high-performance applications. You will work closely with senior scientists and engineers, contributing to laboratory development while supporting the translation of new materials from bench‑scale experimentation through to pilot-scale manufacturing.
It is a strong opportunity for an early-career Scientist who enjoys hands‑on laboratory work, takes a rigorous and methodical approach to experimentation, and is excited by seeing scientific ideas evolve into real, scalable materials.
You will join a business that values curiosity, scientific integrity and continuous learning. It is an environment where high standards matter, collaboration is essential, and good science underpins every engineering and scale‑up decision.
What you will be doing:
You will contribute directly to materials development and scale‑up activity, supporting both research and manufacturing facing work. This will include:
* Designing and carrying out routine and complex laboratory experiments to support new material formulations
* Supporting scale‑up activities from bench‑top through to pilot manufacturing in collaboration with scientific and engineering colleagues
* Collecting, analysing and interpreting experimental data, and presenting findings through clear technical reports and presentations
* Operating and maintaining laboratory equipment to ensure high‑quality, reproducible data
* Performing materials testing and characterisation to evaluate performance and suitability for application
* Working closely with scientists and engineers to meet development milestones and project goals
* Adhering to laboratory safety, quality and regulatory standards
What we are looking for:
* A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (2:1 or 1st) in a relevant scientific discipline such as Chemistry, Materials Science, Polymer Science, Textiles or Leather Science
* A genuine passion for science, materials and learning through experimentation
* Familiarity with laboratory-scale formulation or materials development, ideally involving bio‑based materials
* Comfortable working within multidisciplinary scientific and engineering teams
* Strong organisation, data analysis and attention to detail
* The ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative environment
* Clear written and verbal communication skills, with confidence explaining technical work to different audiences
* Industry or research experience in materials science or formulation development
* Experience working with polymers, biomaterials or textile‑related materials
* Exposure to CASE materials such as coatings, adhesives, sealants or elastomers
* Hands‑on experience with analytical techniques for materials or formulation characterisation
* Familiarity with design of experiments or statistical analysis tools
