Job Summary
A Motor Vehicle Panel Repair Apprentice learns to assess vehicle damage, strip down damaged vehicles, use tools to repair and replace body panels, apply filler, weld and join components, prepare surfaces for paint, and record completed work. The role requires strong hands-on skills, an understanding of health and safety, the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, and a passion for cars.
Key Responsibilities
* Damage Assessment:
Inspect vehicles to identify the extent of damage and determine the best repair method.
* Vehicle Preparation:
Strip down damaged vehicles, including removing and refitting panels and trim components.
* Panel Repair:
Smooth minor dents, fill holes or rusted areas, and repair or replace damaged panels.
* Joining Techniques:
Learn and apply various joining technologies, such as spot welding, MIG brazing, and body adhesive bonding.
* Surface Preparation:
Prepare surfaces using filler and foundation materials for painting.
* Equipment Operation:
Safely operate tools and equipment, including panel pulling systems, alignment tools, and welding equipment.
* Record Keeping:
Maintain accurate records of all work performed for customer and workshop management.

Learning & Progression

* Upon completion, apprentices can advance to skilled technician roles or specialise further as a paint technician, estimator, or workshop manager.
