Teaching Assistant – SEMH Secondary School

Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday
Contract: Temporary to Permanent
Pay Rate: Competitive daily rate dependent on experience
Smart Education is currently recruiting for a resilient and compassionate Teaching Assistant to support pupils within a secondary SEMH school in Bilston.
This is a rewarding temp-to-perm opportunity for someone passionate about supporting young people with social, emotional, and mental health needs and helping them achieve both academically and personally.
About the Role
As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to provide tailored support to secondary-aged pupils with SEMH needs and challenging behaviour.
You will help create a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment while building positive relationships that encourage confidence, independence, and emotional regulation.
Key Responsibilities
Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEMH needs
Support students both inside and outside of the classroom
Assist teachers with lesson delivery and classroom activities
Promote positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing
Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils
Support pupils with social skills, emotional regulation, and engagement in learning
Help maintain a safe and structured learning environment
